Wood Care
Your new piece of furniture from Markham Reclaimed is designed to last a lifetime. Like any treasured item, it will benefit from a little care to keep it looking its best. With this attention, you’ll witness the wood develop even more character over time. Each piece may feature unique colour variations, natural knots, splits, and distinctive grain patterns and saw marks—all adding to its authentic charm. Unlike synthetic materials, solid wood naturally responds to its environment, adapting and shifting with changes in temperature and humidity.
Most of our wooden creations are one-of-a-kind, handmade items, meaning each piece has its own unique character and charm. Subtle differences in appearance make each item special. Our timber products are typically Waxed or Lacquered, but please note that some woods, like pine, teak, and other hardwoods, are naturally porous and may mark when exposed to oils, harsh detergents, bleach, and certain liquids.
To care for your piece, we recommend using a dry lint free cloth without chemical or abrasive cleaners. For touch-ups, a wax care kit in the matching finish is ideal—wax is simple to apply and will restore the wood’s luster. If you’re unsure about the best way to protect your timber piece, feel free to reach out to us directly; we’re always happy to help.
We also suggest using coasters, tablecloths, or placemats under hot items to avoid marks, stains, and potential warping.
Please keep in mind that over time, natural splits and cracks may develop in your timber furniture. These changes are part of the wood's story and will not affect the piece’s strength or durability. They add to its unique beauty and character.

Metal Care
To clean your raw steel furniture with a clear lacquer finish, start by wiping it with a soft cloth to remove dust and any dry debris. Then, use a cloth or sponge with mild, soapy water to gently clean the surface. Follow up with a fresh damp cloth to remove any soap, and dry thoroughly. The clear lacquer is designed to prevent rust, but if any rust does appear over time, here’s a simple method to address it: Cut a small square of aluminum foil, dip it in water, and wrap it around the affected area, gently rubbing. The friction between the foil and the steel, combined with water, creates a polishing compound that helps remove rust. Once done, wipe the area with a clean, soft cloth to clear away any residue.
Concrete Care
When caring for microcement, it’s best to avoid acidic substances, including citrus, vinegar, and acid-based cleaners, as well as oils. Avoid using abrasive chemicals or harsh cleaning solutions on microcement surfaces.
To clean, simply wipe with warm water and a soft cloth; a mild ph neutral detergent can be used if needed. If any food or liquid spills, wipe it up promptly with a soft cloth to avoid staining.

Microcement is sensitive to heat, so be sure to use coasters, placemats, or tablecloths to protect the surface from hot items, which may cause discoloration.
Please note, the cleaning solutions used for microcement pools are not suitable for microcement furniture or homewares. If you wish to apply a sealant, consider reapplying every six to twelve months for added protection.
